Grand Bahama: Resorts of Yesteryear

Driving down the South Mall last trip (March 2003), we noted that the ruins of the old Shalimar Hotel had been turned into a heap of tangled iron and rubble. The passing of such a landmark makes one realize the fleeting glory of the past, as the once-proud new hotels and resorts of Freeport's youth disappear. Even the International Bazaar is showing its age. We would therefore like to offer a few memorials to the island's more recent history drawn from the cheerful brochures that once called visitors from around the world to visit this or that outpost in our tropical paradise.
